Almodad

Almodad (bahasa Ibrani: אַלְמוֹדָ֖ד‎ ’Almōḏāḏ) adalah seorang keturunan Nuh dan putra pertama yang disebutkan dari Yoktan dalam Kejadian 10:26 dan 1 Tawarikh 1:20. Meskipun Alkitab tak memiliki riwayat lebih lanjut mengenai Almodad, tokoh tersebut dianggap sebagai pendiri suku Arabian di "Arabia Felix".[1] Ini berdasarkan pada identifikasi putra-putri Yotan yang lain, seperti Syeba dan Havilah, yang keduanya diidentifikasikan berasal dari kawasan tersebut.[2]

Menurut Easton's Bible Dictionary "Almodad" artinya "tak terukur",[3] "ukuran Allah",[4] "yang dikasihi," atau, "Allah itu terkasih",[5] "Allah itu kasih",[6] dan "Allah itu sahabat".[7][8]

Sebagian besar karya terjemahan dan cendekiawan memakai kata "Elmodad", yang meliputi Yosefus,[9] Alkitab Douay–Rheims[10] dan Targum Ps.-Jonathan, yang mencantumkan Kejadian 10:26.[11][12][13]
