Mandar hutan kecil (Aramides mangle) adalah spesies burung dalam subfamili Rallinae dari famili Rallidae, yang mencakup mandar, mandar air, dan mandar rawa. Spesies ini endemik di Brasil.[2][3]

Deskripsi

Mandar hutan kecil (Aramides mangle) memiliki panjang 27–29 cm. Dua individu betina yang ditimbang memiliki berat 164–202 g.[4] Spesies ini merupakan anggota terkecil dalam genus Aramides. Jantan dan betina memiliki penampilan yang serupa.

Paruhnya kuat dan berwarna kehijauan, dengan warna merah pada pangkal rahang atas, sedangkan kaki dan telapak kakinya berwarna merah. Individu dewasa memiliki kepala, leher, dan bagian atas punggung berwarna abu-abu. Bagian punggung lainnya serta sayapnya berwarna cokelat zaitun hingga hijau zaitun. Tungging, ekor, dan bulu penutup bawah ekornya berwarna hitam. Tenggorokannya berwarna putih, sedangkan dada dan perutnya berwarna cokelat kemerahan.[5]

Sebaran

Mandar hutan kecil (Aramides mangle) ditemukan di Brasil, mulai dari Pará bagian timur laut ke arah selatan sepanjang pesisir hingga negara bagian São Paulo, serta sedikit ke pedalaman di bagian timur laut.[5] Spesies ini juga pernah tercatat sebagai pengembara di Guyana Prancis.[6] Habitat utamanya adalah rawa-rawa pesisir dan laguna, termasuk hutan mangrove. Di pedalaman, spesies ini ditemukan di caatinga, yaitu bioma yang relatif kering.[5][7]
