Arecales adalah salah satu ordo tumbuhan berbunga yang termasuk dalam klad commelinids (”core Monokotil”), Monokotil menurut Sistem klasifikasi APG II). Namun, sistem klasifikasi APG IV memasukkan Dasypogonaceae ke dalam ordo ini, yang kepastiannya masih dipertanyakan.[1][2] Bangsa ini juga diakui sebagai takson dalam sistem klasifikasi Cronquist dan tercakup dalam anak kelas Arecidae, kelas Liliopsida.

Bangsa ini hanya memiliki satu suku anggota, Arecaceae (suku pinang-pinangan).[3]
