Arfvedsonit adalah mineral amfibol natrium dengan komposisi: [Na][Na2][(Fe2+)4Fe3+][(OH)2|Si8O22]. Mineral ini mengkristal di sistem kristal prismatik monoklinik dan biasanya berbentuk prisma berserat hingga beradiasi atau kebintangan berwarna hitam kehijauan hingga abu-abu kebiruan.

Ini adalah mineral yang agak langka yang terbentuk di intrusi nefelin syenit dan pegmatit dan granit agpaitik (peralkalin) sama halnya seperti batolit Golden Horn di Okanogan County, Washington (lokasi terbentuknya zektzerite). Mineral ini ditemukan pula di Mont Saint-Hilaire, Quebec, Kanada; kompleks Ilímaussaq di Greenland Selatan; dan pegmatit Semenanjung Kola, Rusia. Asosiasi mineralnya meliputi nefelin, albit, aegirin, riebeckit, katoforit, dan kuarsa.[1]

Arfvedsonit ditemukan tahun 1823 dan namanya diambil dari kimiawan Swedia Johan August Arfwedson (1792–1841).[3]
