Asam palmitoleat adalah asam lemak tak jenuh tunggal omega-7 (16:1n-7) dengan rumus H3(CH2)5CH=CH(CH2)7COOH yang merupakan unsur umum gliserida dari jaringan adipositas manusia. Ini hadir di semua jaringan tetapi, secara umum, ditemukan dalam konsentrasi yang lebih tinggi di hati. Ini biosintesis dari asam palmitat oleh aksi enzim Stearoyl-CoA desaturase-1.

Penelitian pada hewan dan kultur sel menunjukkan bahwa asam palmitoleat adalah anti-inflamasi, dan meningkatkan sensitivitas insulin pada hati dan otot rangka, tetapi penelitian lebih lanjut diperlukan untuk menentukan aksinya pada manusia.[1] Banyak efek asam palmitoleat disebabkan oleh aktivasi PPAR-alpha.
