Badan polar

Badan polar adalah sebuah sel haploid kecil yang terbentuk pada saat yang sama sebagai sel telur pada oogenesis, namun umumnya tak memiliki kemampuan untuk menyuburkan. Saat sel-sel diploid tertentu pada hewan mengalami sitokinesis setelah meiosis untuk memproduksi sel-sel telur, sel tersebut terkadang dibelah. Kebanyakan sitoplasma terpisah menjadi satu sel putri, yang menjadi telur atau ovum, sementara badan polar yang lebih kecil hanya menerima sejumlah kecil sitoplasma. Sel tersebut kemudian mati dan didisintegrasikan oleh apoptosis, tetapi dalam beberapa kasus masih dan dapat berpengaruh dalam siklus hidup organisme.[1]
