Balaena adalah sebuah genus cetacea pada famili Balaenidae. Genus ini dianggap sebagai genus monotipik, karena hanya memiliki satu spesies hidup, yaitu paus kepala busur (B. mysticetus). Genusnya diberi nama pada 1758 oleh Carolus Linnaeus, yang pada saat itu menganggap semua paus sikat (dan paus kepala busur) sebagai satu spesies. Sebelumnya, famili Balaenidae dan genus Balaena dikenal dengan nama umum "paus sikat", tetapi sekarang Balaena dikenal sebagai paus kepala busur.[1]
