Bangiomorpha pubescens adalah spesies alga merah multisel, yang hidup pada periode Stenium. Bangiomorpha adalah makhluk hidup pertama yang bereproduksi secara seksual.[1] Fosilnya pertamakali ditemukan di Formasi Hunting, Pulau Somerset, Kanada, pada bebatuan berusia 1,047 miliar tahun lalu. Genus ini mendapat namanya, karena memiliki wujud yang mirip dengan genus alga merah modern, Bangia.

Reproduksi ini meningkatkan variasi genetik, yang mempercepat proses evolusi, dan menambah keanekaragaman makhluk hidup.[2]
