Benserazid adalah dekarboksilase asam L-amino aromatik yang bekerja di perifer atau inhibitor dekarboksilase DOPA, yang tidak dapat melewati sawar darah-otak.[1] Ini ada dalam Daftar Obat Esensial Organisasi Kesehatan Dunia.[2]

Benserazid digunakan dalam pengelolaan penyakit Parkinson dalam kombinasi dengan L-DOPA (levodopa) sebagai co-beneldopa (BAN), dengan nama merek Madopar di Inggris dan Prolopa di Kanada, keduanya dibuat oleh Roche. Benserazide tidak disetujui untuk digunakan di Amerika Serikat; carbidopa digunakan, sebagai gantinya, untuk tujuan yang sama. Kombinasi ini juga digunakan untuk pengobatan sindrom kaki gelisah.[3]
