Benzofuran merupakan senyawa heterosiklik yang terdiri dari cincin benzena dan furan yang berlebur. Struktur benzofuran emrupakan induk dari senyawa-senyawa terkait yang berstruktur lebih kompleks. Sebagai contoh, psoralen merupakan turunan benzofuran yang terdapat pada beberapa tumbuhan.

Benzofuran dibuat dengan O-alkilasi salisilaldehida dengan asam kloroasetat, diikuti dengan dehidrasi eter yang dihasilkan.[1]
