Rapat jenis (specific gravity) dikenal juga dengan massa jenis relatif adalah rasio relatif antara massa jenis suatu zat dengan massa jenis zat standar (air murni). Air murni bermassa jenis 1 g/cm3 (0,036 lb/cu in) atau 1.000 kg/m3 (1.700 lb/cu yd). Rapat jenis tidak mempunyai satuan atau dimensi. Rumusnya:
