Bertahar

Bertahar adalah ekspresi berlayar yang mengacu pada kemampuan perahu layar untuk bergerak maju meskipun sedang menuju (atau hampir menuju) angin. Bertahar mungkin bertujuan untuk membuat kapal berhenti.

Bertahar dapat dilakukan jika layar dimiringkan sedikit lebih ke depan daripada gaya layar. Dalam aspek ini perahu akan bergerak maju karena lunas (garis tengah) perahu berperan terhadap air sebagaimana layar berperan terhadap angin. Kekuatan layar diimbangi oleh kekuatan lunas. Hal ini membuat perahu tidak bergerak searah dengan gaya layar. Meskipun gaya layar total mengarah ke samping saat berlayar melawan angin, sudut serang yang tepat akan menggerakkan perahu ke depan.
