Bukit Gundul


Bukit Gundul merupakan salah satu bukit yang terletak di Desa Situnggaling, Kecamatan Merek, Kabupaten Karo, Sumatera Utara.[1] Bukit ini berada dekat kawasan Kaldera Danau Toba, sebuah Geopark Global UNESCO.[2] Bukit Gundul memiliki jalur pendek yang hanya membutuhkan waktu 1 jam dari pos hingga puncak.[3]

Diyakini Bukit Gundul terbentuk sejak seribu tahun hingga jutaan tahun silam. Konon, kata mereka bukit ini terbentuk dari batuan lava andesit, merupakan jenis batuan vulkanik ekstrusif berkomposisi menengah, dengan tekstur afanitik hingga porfiritik. Dikenal sebagai nama bukit Gundul. Dimana, tidak ada satupun pepohonan yang tumbuh di atasnya, hanya dapat ditumbuhi rerumputan. Sementara, di sepanjang jalur pendakian ada terdapat beberapa pepohonan.[4]
