Carl Richard Woese (/ˈwoʊz/;[1] 15 Juli 1928 – 30 Desember 2012) adalah mikrobiolog dan fisikawan Amerika Serikat. Woese terkenal karena mendefinisikan arkea pada tahun 1977. Ia juga merupakan pencetus hipotesis dunia RNA pada tahun 1977, meskipun bukan dengan nama tersebut. Woese pernah menjabat sebagai profesor mikrobiologi di University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.
