Sejarah
Daily News didirikan oleh Melville E. Stone, Percy Meggy, dan William Dougherty pada 1875 dan mulai terbit pada awal tahun berikutnya. Surat kabar tersebut dikenal oleh masyarakat biasa yang berseberangan dengan pesaing utamanya, Chicago Tribune, yang lebih berpengaruh pada kalangan kaum elit di kota tersebut; selama beberapa tahun, Daily News dihargai 1¢. Byron Andrews, lulusan dari Hobart College, adalah salah satu wartawan pertamanya. Victor F. Lawson memegang Chicago Daily News pada 1876 dan menjadi manajer bisnisnya. Stone masih terlibat sebagai penyunting dan kemudian mengambil kembali kepemilikannya, tetapi Lawson kembali memegang penuh kepemilikannya pada 1888.[1]
