Chlorococcum adalah ganggang hijau bersel tunggal yang hidup di air tawar, berkembangbiak secara vegetatif dan generatif. Perkembangbiakan Chlorococcum secara vegetatif adalah dengan membentuk zoospora. Tiap sel Chlorococcum dewasa yang tidak berflagel, inti dan plasmanya dapat membelah dan menghasilkan delapan sampai dengan enam belas zoospora. Tiap zoospora berflagel sepasang. Perkembangbiakannya secara generatif terjadi dengan konjugasi zoospora. Hasil konjugasi berupa zigospora. Setelah zigospora masak, dindingnya akan pecah dan menghasilkan beberapa zoospora. Selanjutnya, setiap zoospora akan menanggalkan flagelumnya dan tumbuh menjadi individu dewasa.
