Constantine Samuel Rafinesque (22 Oktober 1783 – 18 September 1840) adalah seorang polimatik abad ke-19 yang lahir dekat Konstantinopel di Kekaisaran Ottoman dan belajar sendiri di Prancis. Dia melakukan perjalanan sebagai seorang pemuda di Amerika Serikat, akhirnya menetap di Ohio pada tahun 1815, di mana dia memberikan kontribusi penting untuk botani, zoologi, dan studi tentang pekerjaan tanah prasejarah di Amerika Utara. Dia juga berkontribusi pada studi linguistik Mesoamerika kuno, di samping pekerjaan yang sudah dia selesaikan di Eropa.
Rafinesque adalah seorang jenius yang eksentrik dan tidak menentu.[1]
