Die Sieger adalah sebuah naskah opera yang disusun antara tahun 1856 dan 1858, pada periode ketika Wagner menjadi sangat tertarik terhadap agama Buddha. Sketsa prosa fragmen yang bertahan sampai saat ini menunjukkan bahwa cerita tersebut didasarkan pada legenda yang ditemukan Wagner dalam buku Introduction to the History of Buddhism karya Eugène Burnouf tahun 1844.

Cerita mengisahkan tentang cinta Chandala Prakriti untuk biksu Ānanda. Buddha mengizinkan persatuan murni mereka dan mengizinkan Prakriti untuk bergabung dengan komunitas biara, meskipun keduanya dikucilkan oleh biksu lain.[1]
