Doktor filsafat (bahasa Latin: Philosophiae Doctor, bahasa Inggris: Doctor of Philosophy) yang populer disingkat PhD atau Ph.D. merupakan gelar akademik tertinggi pada banyak bidang keilmuan. Istilah filsafat pada gelar akademik ini tidak bermakna doktor di bidang keilmuan filsafat, melainkan sebagai gelar penghormatan dalam tingkat kebijaksanaan pada suatu bidang keilmuan selain bidang teologi, hukum dan medis.[1][2] Pemegang gelar PhD menghasilkan penelitian yang memperluas batas pengetahuan, biasanya dalam bentuk tesis atau disertasi. Istilah PhD sering merujuk pada sebutan profesor universitas atau ilmuwan dalam berbagai bidang.[3]

Gelar PhD yang diterapkan di berbagai negara setara dengan gelar doktor di Indonesia. Kriteria dan persyaratan untuk meraih gelar ini dapat beragam di setiap negara, universitas dan fakultas yang menguji calon akademisi.[3]
