Epitoniidae adalah famili besar yang mencakup siput wentletrap, yaitu jenis siput air ektoparasit predator dengan pilin tinggi dan biasanya berwarna putih.[1] Nama wentletrap sendiri berasal dari bahasa Belanda (wenteltrap), yang berarti anak tangga spiral. Nama lain untuk siput ini adalah "cangkang-tangga". Diperkirakan terdapat sekitar 630 spesies dalam famili ini.[2]

Famili ini merupakan bagian dari superfamili Epitonioidea. Sejak 2017, famili ini juga mencakup famili usang Janthinidae (siput ungu pelagik) dan Nystiellidae, semuanya termasuk dalam kelompok informal Ptenoglossa.[3]
