Equisetidae

Equisetidae adalah salah satu dari empat sub-kelas Polypodiopsida (tumbuhan paku), grup tumbuhan berpembuluh dengan fosil tertua berasal dari periode Devon.

Equisetidae sebelumnya diklasifikasikan sebagai divisi terpisah dari tumbuhan berspora dan disebut Equisetophyta, Arthrophyta, Calamophyta atau Sphenophyta. Ketika diklasifikasikan sebagai kelas, nama Equisetopsida s.s. dan Sphenopsida juga telah digunakan. Namun sekarang diakui sebagai kerabat dekat tumbuhan paku (Polypodiopsida) di mana membentuk garis keturunan khusus.[2] Namun, pembagian antara paku ekor kuda dan paku-pakuan lainnya sudah sangat kuno sehingga banyak ahli botani, terutama paleobotani, masih menganggap kelompok ini secara fundamental terpisah di tingkat yang lebih tinggi.
