Etroplus adalah genus kecil Ikan Siklid (Cichlidae) yang berasal dari India selatan dan Sri Lanka. Genus ini merupakan ikan siklid endemik daerah tersebut bersamaan dengan genus Pseudetroplus (yang sebelumnya termasuk dalam Etroplus).[1] Kerabat terdekatnya yakni genus Paretroplus yang berasal dari Madagaskar. Kedua garis keturunan ini telah terpisah selama zaman Mesozoikum, seperti Madagaskar dan Lempeng Hindia yang telah terpisah pada akhir Zaman kapur.[3]
