Film fantasi adalah salah satu genre film yang masuk dalam genre fantasi dengan tema-tema fantastik, yang biasanya melibatkan sihir, peristiwa-peristiwa supranatural, mitologi, cerita rakyat, atau dunia-dunia fantasi yang eksotis. Genre tersebut dianggap merupakan bentuk dari fiksi spekulatif bersama dengan film fiksi ilmiah dan film horor. Film-film fantasi sering memiliki sebuah unsur dari sihir, mitos, keajaiban, eskapisme, dan ke-luar biasa-an.[1]

Menurut Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia film fantasi berarti lakon (cerita) gambar hidup bukan berdasarkan kejadian yang sebenarnya atau khayalan. Film fantasi yang bersifat fiksi terbentuk dari 3 komponen, yaitu: cerita khayalan, tokoh fiksi, dan latar tempat yang tidak diketahui zaman dan dimensi nya.[2]
