Giovanni Boccaccio (lahir di Certaldo, Republik Florentine, antara Juni dan Juli 1313 – meninggal di Certaldo, 21 Desember 1375) adalah seorang penulis dan penyair Italia berpengaruh pada masa Renaisans Awal. Boccaccio lahir di Certaldo dan menghabiskan masa kecilnya di Firenze sebelum pindah ke Napoli bersama ayahnya pada usia 13 tahun.[1]

Ia dikenal sebagai sahabat, murid, dan koresponden dari Francesco Petrarca, seorang tokoh humanis Renaisans terkemuka. Boccaccio menghasilkan berbagai karya penting, termasuk kumpulan cerita Decameron, buku biografi Tentang Wanita Terkenal, dan puisi-puisi dalam bahasa vernacular Italia.
