Grain of salt
"(With a) grain of salt" ("(Dengan se)butir garam"), atau "(with a) pinch of salt") ("(dengan se)juput garam"), adalah sebuah idiom bahasa Inggris yang artinya memandang suatu hal dengan skeptisisme atau tidak menafsirkan sesuatu hal secara harfiah.[1]
Sejarah
Hipotesis dari cikal bakal frasa tersebut meliputi Naturalis Historia karya Pliny Tua, mengenai penemuan resep untuk antidot pada sebuah racun.[2] Dalam antidot tersebut, salah satu bahannya adalah sebutir garam. Sehingga, ancaman-ancaman dari racun tersebut diangkat "dengan sebutir garam", dan sehingga dianggap kurang serius.
