Gubernur Persemakmuran Massachusetts adalah kepala eksekutif pemerintahan Massachusetts. Gubernur adalah kepala kabinet negara bagian dan panglima tertinggi angkatan bersenjata persemakmuran.
Massachusetts memiliki sistem pemerintahan republik yang mirip dengan sistem presidensial. Gubernur bertindak sebagai kepala pemerintahan sambil memiliki peran yang berbeda dari peran cabang legislatif. Gubernur memiliki kewajiban politik yang luas, termasuk tugas-tugas seremonial dan politik. Gubernur juga mengesahkan rancangan undang-undang dan memiliki hak veto. Gubernur adalah anggota dari Dewan Gubernur Massachusetts, sebuah dewan yang dipilih langsung oleh rakyat yang berisi delapan anggota yang memberikan nasihat dan persetujuan mengenai perihal hukum dan penunjukan tertentu.[3]
Dimulai dengan Kompeni Teluk Massachusetts pada tahun 1629, peran gubernur telah berubah sepanjang sejarahnya dalam hal kekuasaan dan pemilihan. Bentuk modern dari jabatan tersebut diciptakan dalam Konstitusi Massachusetts tahun 1780, yang mensyaratkan jabatan "magistrat eksekutif tertinggi".[4]
Gubernur Massachusetts dipilih setiap empat tahun dalam pemilihan umum negara bagian yang diadakan pada hari Selasa pertama bulan November setelah tanggal 1 November. Setelah setiap pemilihan gubernur, gubernur terpilih dilantik pada hari Kamis setelah hari Rabu pertama di bulan Januari setelah pemilihan.[5] Tidak ada batasan masa jabatan yang membatasi berapa lama seorang gubernur bisa menjabat.[6][7][8] Gubernur yang menjabat terlama dalam sejarah Massachusetts adalah Michael Dukakis, yang menjabat selama 12 tahun; Dukakis menjabat dari tahun 1975 hingga 1979 dan dari tahun 1983 hingga 1991. Gubernur petahana saat ini adalah Maura Healey, seorang Demokrat yang memenangkan pemilihan gubernur tahun 2022.
