Kode status tanggap 301 Moved Permanently digunakan untuk pengalihan permanen. Kode status ini digunakan bersama kepala lokasi. RFC 2616 menyatakan bahwa:

  • Jika seorang klien memiliki kemampuan menyunting tautan, maka ia harus memutakhirkan semua rujukan terhadap Request URI.
  • Tanggapannya dapat disinggahkan.
  • Kecuali metode permintaannya adalah HEAD, maka entitas ini harus memiliki catatan hiperteks kecil dengan hipertautan menuju URI baru.
  • Jika kode status 301 diterima sebagai tanggapan terhadap permintaan jenis apapun kecuali GET atau HEAD, maka klien harus memberi tahu pengguna sebelum mengalihkan.
