Hipergami

Hipergami adalah sebuah istilah yang dipakai dalam ilmu sosial untuk tindakan atau praktik dari orang menikahi orang lain yang berstatus sosial atau kasta yang lebih tinggi ketimbang diri mereka sendiri.

Antonim "hipogami" merujuk kepada kebalikannya: menikahi orang dari status atau kelas sosial yang lebih rendah.

Kedua istilah tersebut dicanangkan di India pada abad ke-19 saat penerjemahan buku-buku hukum Hindu klasik, yang masing-masing memakai istilah Sanskerta anuloma dan pratiloma, untuk dua konsep tersebut.[1]
