Historisme

Historisme (bahasa Italia: storicismo) adalah teori filosofis dan historiografi yang didirikan pada abad ke-19 di Jerman (sebagai Historismus) dan sangat berpengaruh pada abad ke-19 dan ke-20 di Eropa. Pada masa itu, tidak ada satu pun ilmu alam, humanistik, atau filsafat yang tidak mencerminkan, dengan satu atau lain cara, jenis pemikiran historis.[1]

Historiografi sejarawan menolak teleologi sejarah dan mendasarkan penjelasannya tentang fenomena sejarah pada simpati dan pemahaman terhadap peristiwa, tokoh, dan periode sejarah. Pendekatan historis mengambil batasan ekstrem dari pengamatan umum bahwa institusi manusia (bahasa, seni, agama, hukum, negara) selalu mengalami perubahan.[2]

Historisme berbeda dengan historisisme, namun kebiasaan orang Inggris dalam menggunakan kedua kata tersebut sangat mirip. Istilah historisisme kadang-kadang digunakan untuk mengidentifikasi arus spesifik yang disebut Historismus dalam tradisi filosofi dan historiografi Jerman.
