Incertae sedis

Incertae sedis (dalam bahasa Latin berarti penempatan tidak pasti)[1] adalah istilah yang digunakan untuk mendefinisikan kelompok taksonomi yang status kekerabatannya tidak diketahui.[2] Contoh incertae sedis adalah:

  • Tanaman fosil Paradinandra suecica tak bisa dimasukan ke famili manapun, tetapi kemudian ditempatkan sebagai incertae sedis di dalam ordo Ericales pada tahun 2001.[3]
  • Fosil Gluteus minimus dideskripsikan pada tahun 1975, tetapi tak dapat dikategorikan ke filum hewan manapun.[4] Maka, genus tersebut merupakan incertae sedis di dalam kingdom Animalia.
  • Hering Dunia Baru (famili Cathartidae) sebelumnya ditetapkan sebagai incertae sedis di dalam Aves karena ordonya tidak diketahui.[5] Nantinya mereka dimasukkan ke dalam ordo yang terpisah, yaitu Cathartiformes.[6]
