James Denney

James Benney (1856-1917)adalah seorang teolog Skotlandia yang lahir di Paisley dan belajar di Universitas Glasgow dan Perguruan Tinggi Free Church.[1] Istrinya bernama Mary Brown dan sangat memengaruhi pemikirannya.[2] Ia menjadi pelayan di Free Church Timur, Broughty Ferry dari tahun 1889 hingga tahun 1897.[1] Pada tahun 1897 Ia diangkat menjadi Guru Besar Teologi Sistematika.[1] Pada tahun 1900 mendapat penghormatan untuk bidang Bahasa dalam Perjanjian Baru, Literatur dan teologi.[1] Selama tujuh tahun ia bekerja sbebgai misionaris dan pelayan jemaat.[2] melalui khotbah dan pengajarannya selama di gereja tersebut, ia menghasilkan sebuah karya yaitu The Expositor's Bible di dalam Thessalonians dan Second Corinthians.[2]

Selama kariernya sebagi seorang teolog, ia menghasilkan banyak karya tulis.[2] Karya-karya Banney di antaranya adalah Romans yang berisi tafsiran kitab tersebut, Jesus and The Gospel, The Death of Christ yang diterbitan pada tahun 1951 dan 1997 dan The Christian Doctrine of Reconciliation yang diterbitkan ulang pada tanggal 1998[2]
