Lachit Borphukan adalah komandan dan Borphukan pada kerajaan Ahom yang terkenal untuk kepemimpinannya yang berhasil pada Pertempuran Saraighat tahun 1671 yang mengalahkan usaha tentara Mughal di bawah komando Ramsingh I untuk merebut kembali Kamrup. Kepahlawanannya selama pertempuran terakhir, ketika ia menyemangati yang putus asa dan memundurkan tentara laut Ahom untuk bertempur kembali meskipun sakit, menjadikannya pahlawan nasional. Ia meninggal setahun kemudian karena penyakit tertentu.
