Lewes ialah sebuah kota di East Sussex, Inggris tenggara. Lewes ialah ibu kotanya, meskipun lebih kecil dari kota lain di daerah itu.

Jalur KA di Lewes dibuka pada tahun 1846.

Geografi

Lewes terletak di sebuah celah di South Downs, yang lewat daerah itu mengalir Sungai Ouse. Kota ini terletak sekitar 16 kilometer dari Brighton & Hove. Di timur kota ini dataran menurun South Downs membentuk tebing kapur yang dapat terlihat dari jarak beberapa km. Bagian terdekat kota ini adalah Cliffe, dan Southover ada di selatan kota ini.

Sejarah

Pertempuran Lewes yang bersejarah terjadi di kota ini pada tanggal 14 Mei 1264. Kota ini memiliki banyak bangunan bersejarah, seperti Kastil Lewes, sisa-sisa Lewes Priory dan Anne of Cleves House.

Sejak tahun 1794 Lewes mendistribusikan anggur dan spiritus dengan nama Harveys, odan sekarang brewery dengan nama Harveys Brewery.
