Libreville adalah ibu kota dan kota terbesar di Gabon. Libreville memiliki luas 65 kilometer persegi yang terletak di barat laut provinsi Estuaire. Libreville adalah kota pelabuhan di Sungai Komo, dekat Teluk Guinea. Pada sensus 2013, populasinya adalah 703.904.[1]

Daerah tersebut telah dihuni oleh orang-orang Mpongwe sejak sebelum Prancis memperoleh tanah tersebut pada tahun 1839. Libreville kemudian menjadi daerah misi Kristen Amerika Serikat, dan tempat pemukiman para budak, sebelum menjadi pelabuhan utama koloni Persekutuan Afrika Prancis Khatulistiwa. Pada saat kemerdekaan Gabon pada tahun 1960, kota ini merupakan pos perdagangan dan pusat administrasi kecil dengan populasi 32.000 jiwa. Sejak 1960, Libreville telah berkembang pesat dan sekarang menjadi rumah bagi sepertiga populasi nasional.[2]
