Louis Agassiz (/ˈæɡəsi/, dalam pengucapan Inggris), 28 Mei 1807 – 14 Desember 1873, adalah seorang biolog dan geolog kelahiran Swiss

Setelah mengunjungi Universitas Harvard pada pertengahan masa kariernya, ia berimigrasi ke A.S. pada 1847 dan menjadi seorang profesor zoologi dan geologi di Harvard, dan menjadi kepala Sekolah Saintifik Lawrence dan mendirikan Museum Zoologi Komperatif.

Kehidupan awal

Louis Agassiz lahir di Môtier (sekarang bagian dari Haut-Vully) di kanton Fribourg, Switzerland. Pertama kali dididik di rumah, kemudian menjalani empat tahun di sekolah menengah di Bienne, ia menyelesaikan pembelajaran dasarnya di Lausanne. Dengan mengadopsi pengobatan sebagai profesinya, ia sukses menempuh pendidikan di universitas Zürich, Heidelberg dan Munich; sementara ia mempelajari sejarah alam, khususnya botani. Pada 1829 ia meraih gelar Doktor Filsafat di Erlangen, dan pada 1830, ia meraih gelar doktor pengobatan di Munich.
