Makkiyah adalah ayat-ayat yang turun sebelum Rasulullah SAW hijrah ke Madinah. Surah-surah Makiyyah turun selama 12 tahun, 5 bulan, 13 hari, dimulai pada 17 Ramadhan (Februari 610 M), saat Nabi Muhammad berusia 40 tahun.
