David Constantine Brooks (lahir 30 November 1981 atau populer dengan nama panggung Mavado adalah pemusik dancehall asal Jamaika. Ia dibesarkan di kawasan kumuh yang disebut "Cuba" di tengah komunitas Cassava Piece, kota Kingston, Jamaika.
Pada Maret 2008, Mavado tampil membawakan lagu ciptaannya "Real Mckoy" untuk trailer nomor 4 Grand Theft Auto IV "Everyone's a Rat". Lagu "Real McKoy" bersama "Last Night" yang keduanya diambil dari album Gangsta for Life: The Symphony of David Brooks juga ditampilkan dalam permainan di stasiun radio "Massive B Radio".
Mavado terpaksa merelakan penghargaan Artis Reggae Terbaik yang direbut Sean Paul pada bulan November 2009. Ia memenangi EME Award untuk singjay pria terbaik tahun 2010. Mavado dan Bounty Killer berasal dari label rekaman yang sama.
Karier
David "Mavado" Brooks mulai bernyanyi di gereja pada usia 4 tahun bersama neneknya.[1] Namun orang yang berjasa memperkenalkannya kepada budaya sound system Jamaika adalah sang ayah yang seorang penganut gerakan Rastafari.[1] Setelah sering tampil di panggung lokal dengan grup Singing Blacks, ia mulai berkarier dengan memakai nama sendiri.[1] Ia bertemu dengan ikon musik reggae Bounty Killer di Kingston ketika ia masih berusia 15 tahun.[2]
Album debut Mavado dengan VP Records diberi judul Gangsta for Life: The Symphony of David Brooks. Singel "Dying" kerap diputar di stasiun radio WQHT (Hot 97) yang mengutamakan lagu R&B/Hip-Hop di New York City.[2] Jam bermerek yang dihadiahkan oleh seorang teman kepadanya merupakan inspirasi untuk nama Mavado yang dipakainya hingga kini.[1]
