Metroid adalah waralaba permainan aksi fiksi ilmiah yang dibuat oleh Nintendo. Seri ini terutama diproduksi oleh pengembang pihak pertama perusahaan Nintendo R&D1 dan Retro Studios, meskipun beberapa permainan telah ditangani oleh pengembang lain, termasuk Fuse Games, Team Ninja, Next Level Games, dan MercurySteam.

Metroid mengikuti pemburu hadiah ruang angkasa Samus Aran, yang melindungi galaksi dari Space Pirates dan upaya mereka untuk memanfaatkan kekuatan makhluk Metroid parasit. Metroid menggabungkan platforming Super Mario Bros dan petualangan The Legend of Zelda dengan suasana fiksi ilmiah yang gelap dan penekanan yang lebih besar pada gameplay nonlinear.

Hingga September 2012, seri Metroid telah terjual lebih dari 17,44 juta kopi.[1]
