Northrop YF-23

Northrop YF-23 atau Northrop-McDonnell Douglas YF-23 adalah pesawat tempur kursi tunggal Amerika, twin-mesin yang dirancang untuk Angkatan Udara Amerika Serikat (USAF). Desain adalah finalis di kompetisi USAF's Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF), mengalahkan Lockheed YF-22 untuk kontrak produksi. Dua prototipe YF-23 dibangun dengan julukan "Black Widow II" dan "Ghost Gray".

Pada 1980-an USAF mulai mencari pengganti untuk pesawat tempur, terutama untuk melawan pesawat canggih Su-27 dan MiG-29 Uni Soviet. Beberapa perusahaan mengajukan proposal desain, proposal dipilih USAF dari Northrop dan Lockheed. Northrop bekerja sama dengan McDonnell Douglas untuk mengembangkan YF-23, sementara Lockheed, Boeing dan General Dynamics mengembangkan YF-22.

YF-23 memiliki keunggulan lebih siluman dan lebih cepat, tetapi kurang lincah dari kompetisi. Setelah proses pengembangan dan evaluasi empat tahun, YF-22 diumumkan pemenang pada tahun 1991 dan memasuki produksi sebagai Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor. Angkatan Laut AS tertarik menggunakan versi produksi ATF sebagai dasar untuk penggantian ke F-14, tetapi rencana ini kemudian dibatalkan. Pada 2009, dua prototipe YF-23 ada di pameran museum.
