Oinopides

Oinopides dari Khios (bahasa Yunani: Οἰνοπίδης ὁ Χῖος) merupakan seorang geometer dan astronom yang hidup pada sekitar tahun 450 SM.

Biografi

Tidak banyak informasi yang diketahui tentang masa muda Oinopides kecuali tempat kelahirannya yang merupakan pulau Khios pada sekitar tahun 490 SM.[1] Konon Oenopides menghabiskan waktu di Athena tapi hanya ada bukti tidak langsung untuk mendukung hal ini. Plato menyebutkannya di dalam Erastae: Sebuah dialog tentang filsafat yang menempatkannya di Athena.[2] Penerjemah bahasa Inggris dari buku yang sama mengungkapkan (di dalam catatan kaki 3) satu aspek lain di dalam kehidupan Oinopides yang merupakan perjalanannya ke Mesir di mana ia memperkaya pengetahuannya tentang seni Astronomi dan Geometri oleh beberapa imam Mesir.[2]
