Oksidase

Oksidase adalah sebuah enzim yang mengkatalis reaksi oksidasi-reduksi, khususnya yang melibatkan dioksigen (O2) sebagai penerima elektron. Dalam reaksi yang melibatkan pemberian atom hidrogen, oksigen direduksi menjadi air (H2O) atau hidrogen peroksida (H2O2). Beberapa reaksi oksidasi (seperti yang melibatkan monoamin oksidase atau xantin oksidase) biasanya tidak melibatkan oksigen molekuler yang bebas.[1][2]

Oksidase merupakan salah satu jenis oksidoreduktase.

Salah satu contoh oksidase adalah sitokrom c oksidase, yaitu enzim utama yang membuat tubuh dapat menggunakan oksigen dalam proses penghasilan energi dan merupakan komponen akhir dalam rantai transpor elektron. Contoh-contoh lainnya adalah:

Dalam ilmu mikrobiologi, tes oksidase digunakan sebagai karakteristik fenotipe untuk mengidentifikasi bakteri; tes ini dapat menentukan apakah bakteri tertentu menghasilkan sitokrom oksidase (sehingga menggunakan oksigen dengan rantai transfer elektron).
