Oofagi

Hiu mako sirip-pendek adalah salah satu contoh hewan yang melaksanakan oofagi.

Oofagi atau ovofagi (secara harfiah "memakan telur") adalah perilaku hewan dimana embrio memakan telur-telur yang dihasilkan oleh ovarium saat masih di dalam uterus induk.[1] Kata oofagi dihasilakn dari kata Yunani Kuno ᾠόν (ōion, "telur") dan φᾱγεῖν (phāgein, "memakan"). Sebagai kontras, adelfofagi adalah kanibalisme embrio bersel banyak.[1]

Oofagi diperkirakan terjadi pada semua hiu dalam ordo Lamniformes dan telah tercatat terjadi pada hiu tikus mata-besar (Alopias superciliosus), hiu tikus pelagik (A. pelagicus), hiu mako sirip-pendek (Isurus oxyrinchus) dan hiu porbeagle (Lamna nasus) di antara beberapa lainnya.[1] Oofagi juga ditemukan di hiu perawat kuning-kecokelatan (Nebrius ferrugineus), dan dalam famili Pseudotriakidae.
