Dalam Buddhisme dan Adwaita Wedanta, perkembangbiakan pikiran (Pali: papañca; Sanskerta: prapañca), secara alternatif disebut obsesi pikiran, proliferasi mental, proliferasi konseptual, atau penjabaran konseptual, merujuk pada pengonsepan yang tak terbatas yang "cenderung mengaburkan keadaan sebenarnya."[1]

Etimologi

Menurut kamus Sanskerta, prapanca (Sanskrit; प्रपञ्च) berarti "dunia yang tampak," "keanekaragaman bentuk," "ekspansi alam semesta."[2] Menurut Mayrhofer, prapanca pada awalnya berarti 'uraian tanpa akhir' ("weitlaufige Auseinandersetzung"), serta "menghitung dengan lima jari."[3]
