Pekten okuli

Pekten okuli adalah struktur pembuluh darah koroid di mata seekor burung yang berbentuk seperti sisir. Ini bukanlah indra dan merupakan struktur berpigmen yang terhubung ke vitreous humor dari titik di mana saraf optik memasuki bola mata.[1] Pekten okuli ini diyakini berperan memelihara retina dan mengontrol pH vitreous humor.[2] Pekten okuli terdapat di semua burung dan beberapa reptil.[3]

Pada mata vertebrata, pembuluh darah terletak di depan retina, sebagian menutupi gambar. Pekten okuli ini membantu untuk memecahkan masalah ini, mengangkat pembuluh darah dari retina sehingga penglihatan menjadi sangat tajam burung seperti elang.[4] Adanya pigmen dalam pekten okuli diyakini melindungi pembuluh darah terhadap kerusakan dari sinar ultraviolet.[5]
