Pelatuk abyssinia[4] (Dendropicos abyssinicus) adalah sebuah spesies burung yang berada dalam famili pelatuk, Picidae. Spesies ini berasal dari Afrika, tempat mereka ditemukan di Eritrea dan Etiopia. Tampaknya spesies ini berkerabat dekat dengan pelatuk kardinal, Dendropicos fuscescens.[5]

Deskripsi

Pelatuk abyssinia merupakan sejenis pelatuk yang sangat kecil dengan paruh yang relatif lebar dan panjang. Punggung dan mantelnya kuning keemasan dengan buntut merah cerah dan sayap serta ekor bergaris. Perutnya pucat dan bergarus hitam. Kepalanya bergaris dan jantannya dicirikan dengan tengkuk serta kepala berwarna merah. Garis cokelat yang melalui matanya beserta mantel emasnya membedakan spesies ini dengan pelatuk kardinal.[6] Panjangnya 16 cm (6,3 in) dan bobotnya 23–26 g (0,81–0,92 oz).[5]
