Pembantaian Vassy

Pembantaian Vassy, juga disebut Pembantaian Wassy, adalah pembunuhan orang-orang Huguenot oleh pasukan François, Adipati Guise, di Wassy, Prancis, pada 1 Maret 1562. Pada saat itu, Adipati François sedang mengunjungi Wassy (Vassy) dan memutuskan untuk menghadiri misa. Di situ ia melihat umat Huguenot sedang mengadakan upacara keagamaan di lumbung yang digunakan sebagai gereja. Beberapa bawahan adipati memaksa masuk, tetapi mereka terusir. Keadaan kemudian memanas: batu-batu beterbangan dan adipati terkena lemparan batu. Adipati François marah besar dan memerintahkan pasukannya untuk membentengi kota dan membakar gereja Huguenot tersebut, sehingga menewaskan 63 orang Huguenot yang tidak bersenjata dan melukai ratusan lainnya.[1]

Peristiwa ini dianggap sebagai pemicu Perang Agama Prancis yang berlangsung selama lebih dari seabad.[2]
