Peter Wellnhofer

Peter Wellnhofer (lahir di Munich, 1936) adalah seorang paleontolog Jerman di Bayerische Staatssammlung fur Paläontologie di Munchen. Ia paling dikenal atas karyanya dalam berbagai spesimen fosil Archaeopteryx. karya Wellnhofer lainnya mencakup The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Pterosaurs pada tahun 1991.

Wellnhoferia, sebuah spesies theropoda punah yang berkerabat dekat dengan Archaeopteryx, dinamai untuk menghormati Wellnhofer pada 2001.[1] Sejenis pterosauria Wellnhopterus juga dinamai untuk menghormatinya pada 2021.[2]

Pada 2007, sebuah pertemuan spesial bagi pakar-pakar pterosauria di Munchen didedikasikan kepada Wellnhofer, mendeskripsikannya sebagai "otoritas terdepan dalam pterosauria selama empat dekade terakhir."[3] Pertemuan tersebut menghasilkan sebuah Festschrift yang berjudul Flugsaurier: pterosaur papers in honour of Peter Wellnhofer.[4]
