Ptolemy Alexander Reid (8 Mei 1918 – 2 September 2003[1]) adalah dokter hewan dan politikus Guyana yang menjabat sebagai Perdana Menteri Guyana dari 1980 hingga 1984.

Kehidupan awal

Beliau lahir di Dartmouth, Guiana Britania[2] menempuh pendidikan di sekolah dasar desa di mana ia akhirnya menjadi seorang guru sebelum memasuki Cyril Potter College of Education (dikenal pada saat itu sebagai Sekolah Pelatihan Guru).[3]

Reid belajar kedokteran hewan di Institut Tuskegee di Alabama, kemudian kembali ke Guyana pada tahun 1955, dan menikah dengan Ruth Chalmers.[3] Tidak dapat menemukan pekerjaan di Guyana Britania,[4] dia pindah ke Inggris di mana dia menjadi anggota Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, dan kemudian praktik di provinsi Kanada Saskatchewan.[1] Dia kembali ke Guyana pada tahun 1958 dan mengambil posisi di Bookers Sugar Estate sebagai Chief Veterinary Officer,[3] dan terlibat dalam politik pada tahun 1960 ketika ia bergabung dengan Kongres Nasional Rakyat.
