Pyre (bahasa Yunani Kuno: πυρά; pyrá, dari πῦρ, pyr, "api"),[1][2] juga dikenal sebagai pyre pemakaman, adalah sebuah struktur, biasanya terbuat dari kayu, untuk membakkar jasad sebagai bagian dari upacara pemakaman atau eksekusi. Sebagai sebuah bentuk dari kremasi, jasad ditempatkan di atas atau di bawah pyre, yang kemudian disulut api.

Pemakaian

Menurut tradisi, pyre dipakai untuk kremasi jenazah dalam agama Hindu dan Sikh, sebuah praktik yang dilakukan selama beberapa ribu tahun.[3] Pyre pemakaman juga dipakai dalam budaya Viking dan Romawi.[4]
