Refait

Dalam Alkitab Ibrani, serta teks-teks kuno non-Yahudi dari wilayah tersebut, istilah Semit Barat Laut Refait (jamak רפאים, Rephaim; Foenisia: rpʼm[1]) merujuk kepada sebuah kelompok suku bangsa yang memiliki tinggi dan besar yang lebih besar ketimbang rata-rata (mungkin raksasa), atau para leluhur yang sudah mati yang tinggal di khayangan.

Etimologi

Terdapat dua kelompok utama dari hipotesis etimologi yang menjelaskan asal-usul istilah refaim dalam Alkitab. Kelompok pertama menyatakan bahwa kata tersebut adalah istilah Ibrani asli, yang berasal dari kata רפא atau רפה. Kata pertama, רפא, artinya menyembuhkan dan dicantumkan dalam kata-kata Ibrani seperti rofe (dokter) atau refuah (pengobatan). Kata kedua, רפה, artinya lemah.[2][3][4]
